  1. Coronavirus updates: Millions of Americans are being told to stay home in fight against COVID-19

Millions of Americans are facing a new normal this weekend as they are living under – or preparing for – orders to stay home. The sweeping measures are part of an intense fight unfolding worldwide against the coronavirus outbreak.
California residents have been ordered to remain in their homes as much as possible, barring some essential exceptions. New York and Illinois followed suit, with similar orders going into effect this weekend. The Connecticut governor is also directing residents to stay home and non-essential businesses to prohibit in-person operations if they can, starting Monday.

Italy death toll rises to 3,405, overtaking China Italy Reports 785 Coronavirus Deaths in 48 hours Despite Lockdown. Italy’s civil protection chief Angelo Borrelli also announced some 3,590 newly confirmed coronavirus cases, bringing the total number of infected people to 24,747, the Associated Press reported. The new cases mark the biggest day-to-day increase yet for Italy, and suggests that the country is still struggling to contain the disease, despite being the first European country to go on lockdown. Italy has the oldest population in Europe, and their elderly have paid a heavy toll through this pandemic. A total of 1,809 people have died in Italy, out of 6,000 deaths worldwide.
